The Anniversary Dinner went down a treat! Lots of good camaraderie, time for a good chat with old friends, some light entertainment from the MC, memories of good times from past Commodores, presentation of the trophies, a raffle and 2 auctions were highlights of the night. Not to mention the food was so tasty too. Very well attended with 85 guests and a great way to celebrate the CYCT’s 50th year.

Next celebration for the club’s fifty years is the picnic on Saturday 15 November. Rosebanks was the destination of the first Club event and this year we hope to recreate the fun picnic. The weather could well upset things so check before you head out as to which beach in Barnes Bay we will be using – Lodge Bay, Quarantine or North Simmonds. Or check for the Albatross burgee flying proudly. Rob from onboard CUVEE is the Cruise Contact and he is encouraging members to make a weekend of it by overnighting aboard before and after.

After a few days of concern looking at the weather forecasts, we had 8 boats at anchor in Dover over the Hobart Show public holiday weekend. With winds from a variety of directions on Thursday, ranging from 0 to 35 knots, a slightly damp sail into Port Esperence lead to relatively stable wind, rain and sun pattern for the weekend. Thanks to Phil Garlick onboard DULCINEA for his Cruise Contact work arranging sundowners and access to the PESC and keeping an eye. No doubt a few stories to be told and we look forward to the report in the Albatross.

Phil’s report won’t make the November Albatross which is currently at the printers so expect it online soon and in the mail box in a week or so. This edition is more a year book and contains details and reports from the Commodore, Treasurer and Vice Commodore, along with 2 great cruising articles, some history, some items for sale, and loads of colour pictures to entice you to get out on the water again.

Speaking of which, now that (he says hopefully) the winds seem to have settled down a bit, it’s time to get out the diaries and check off the CYCT Calendar to see what you can join. Cruises to Norfolk Bay 17 January leading up to the Tasman Regatta at Taranna, a Huon cruise for the February long weekend on 06 February and the annual 2 week cruise to the East Coast departing 14 February

Tracey Taylor wrote: I’m excited to start as the Membership Officer. After 15 years as a member, I feel it’s time to contribute more actively. Our club offers many opportunities, like learning new skills and gaining practical experience through cruising. You might even meet potential new members while you’re out sailing this season. Perhaps you could encourage them to attend a meeting or WoB.
We’ve noticed a decline in new membership applications. It’s natural for our club’s demographics to change. With our 50th anniversary, it’s expected the club will evolve.
If you need a new name tag, let me know! Whether it is a new or updated name tag. I know some members have new boats so a new name tag is recommended. Reach out to me anytime and see you on the water.

Next Tuesday is the General Meeting is at the RYCT at 1930 hours. Rear Commodore David Bowker wrote: We are very lucky to have Simon come to speak to us about his restoration of the Kellie Jayde. The Kellie Jayde was the first boat built by Ray Kemp who went on to build the Lady Nelson and several other distinguished Tasmanian boats. When Simon took her over she was in a very poor state and he put her up on a slip for 2 years before she could be returned to the water. She was an ex Tasmanian cray boat but with a hard chine in place of a rounded hull. For the last several years she has been continually improved. Her name is intriguing and is made up from Simon’s wife and daughter’s middle names. We can look forward to a fascinating tale.
The minutes from the October General Meeting are linked here 2025_OCT_GM_Minutes and the agenda for the November meeting will be on the website. Check documents / Club policies / General Meetings / Agenda / 2025.
